The Reseller VPS Difference
What makes our reseller VPS plan different from any other reseller plan?
In many ways, our reseller VPS is EXACTLY like a more traditional reseller plan. You manage it the same way, and you set up domains and
accounts in exactly the same way. In fact, if you've previously had a reseller plan that uses the HELM Control Panel, then on the surface
it looks just the same.
But look under the skin and you'll see some very real, very important, and very significant differences in how it
operates. And there are some huge benefits to you as a reseller.
It's a dedicated server
OK, you share the same physical hardware as other users, but it's YOUR operating system and it's YOUR server, and hardware resources
are dedicated only to your VPS. No-one else can access
your operating system because it's for your use only. No-one else is sharing space on your server. No-one else is loading
files on to it. Your Reseller VPS only contains YOUR web sites.
As well as being much more secure, all of your operating system's resources are dedicated to running YOUR web sites.
Compare this with traditional reseller hosting where your web sites sit side-by-side among hundreds or thousands
of other sites all sharing the same operating system, the same drives, the same limited resources. If another
company loads up a site that uses lots of resources, your web sites suffer. If another company's web site crashes the
server, your sites are down at the same time.
Your VPS is completely independent from everyone else. Even if another user manages to crash their VPS,
it won't affect you at all. All your web sites will carry on working as normal.
Guaranteed Resources
They're more important than you might imagine.
When we allocate 1GB of RAM to your VPS, it's all yours. No-one else gets to use it. With a traditional reseller plan,
it's impossible for a host to guarantee your resources, so you always have the worry that your sites are going to suffer
because another site on the same server is guzzling all the shared memory.
The same goes for diskspace. Disk capacity has soared over the last couple of years while prices have dropped, and it's allowed hosting
companies to offer more and more diskspace with their hosting plans. 60GB is a huge amount of diskspace - it's so large that we don't
have a single shared hosting server, or dedicated server, in our whole setup (and we have a LOT of servers) that uses that much
diskspace for web sites. The good thing about the reseller VPS is that when diskspace is allocated to you, it is ALL there for
you to use.
Our Reseller VPS servers have 500GB of space available on each physical server to allocate to VPSs. Once we have allocated all
that space we can't create any more. It means that we can't overload our servers and it means that your diskspace is dedicated to you.
We could install larger drives, but we believe we've hit a good balance between price, the numbers of VPSs, and the performance
capabilities of the physical server. Adding more VPSs per server would be more profitable but result in lower performance.
Last, but not least, we come to CPU usage. Windows VPS software manages CPU usage between VPSs. Each VPS is allocated a maximum CPU usage
and the VPS software ensures that each VPS gets the same share of CPU resources - no single VPS can use all of the CPU resources.
This means that if your VPS has 20 sites installed, and another VPS user manages to install 10,000 web sites on their VPS,
your web sites won't be affected by this any more than if the other user had only loaded a single web site
(the other user may experience poor performance though!).
This ability to guarantee resources, and to isolate your resource usage from another user, is what makes the reseller VPS a
far better proposition than a traditional reseller plan.
More Flexibility
This is where the real difference lies with our reseller VPS over a traditional reseller plan.
The dedicated operating system and guaranteed resource usage are technically important, but the benefit they bring to you
is providing flexibility.
Your reseller VPS is a dedicated server and, like a dedicated server, you can run whatever software you want on it.
At first glance that may not seem that big a leap, but try asking a traditional reseller if they'll install you an email
server for your own personal use and see what they say.
With traditional reselling, you're restricted to the software provided by your host. If you’ve got a specific requirement,
it might be a struggle to find a host who can give you exactly what you need. With our reseller VPS, if we don't have the
software you want to use, all you need to do is arrange a licence for it and we'll install it for you on your VPS. It really
is that simple.
Even if you don't need anything else installed, the benefits of having your own server, your own operating system, and guaranteed
hardware resources, is much more than you will ever get with a traditional reseller account.
You're in Charge of Performance
You really are! With traditional reseller hosting, you rarely know the specification of the server your sites are running on,
you don't know how many other sites are sharing the same hardware and software (it could be hundreds or even thousands),
and you don't know what resources these other sites require or use.
It's all a bit of "pot luck" whether you get good, bad, or indifferent performance from your web sites, and you never know when
another company's sites are going to tie up all the resources, crash the server, or load a web application that is so full of
bugs that the server gets hacked.
With our reseller VPS, your VPS is isolated from every other VPS, and you have hardware resources allocated to you. That means
you don't need to worry about what any other VPS is up to because whether they all load 1 web site or 10,000 web sites on their
VPS, it doesn't make a difference to the performance of your VPS.
That puts you firmly in the driving seat of how well your VPS performs. If you have an unlimited Domain Licence from HELM
we're not going to stop you loading 500,000 web sites to your VPS if that's what you want to do (and if you have enough space!), but
if web performance has started to slow down then you know the reason. It's only the web sites that you load that are affecting
the performance of your VPS.
If you find that as you load more and more sites on to your VPS that performance has slowed down noticeably, that isn't a problem. You can
always purchase another VPS and we'll set-up HELM so that you can manage both VPSs through your original account - as long as the
licences for HELM are for the same number of domains. That way you can grow your business bit-by-bit without having to invest
large sums of money up front. It also means you can decide when performance isn't as good as it was and take steps to correct it -
something you could never do with a traditional reseller plan.
Value for Money
Our reseller VPS is about the same price as most traditional reseller plans. More expensive than some. Cheaper than others.
But, when it comes to value for money, it knocks the socks off ALL of them.
All the features of a reseller plan (plus some extras!), a dedicated Windows server that’s simple to use and manage,
the freedom to install your own choice of software, and guaranteed resources dedicated to you - all for just
£49.00 a month. That's real value for money.
