Physical Security
Physical security is a combination of keeping your server safe from fire, flood, and other potential disasters, and making sure
no-one has unauthorized physical access to your server.
Server Physical Security
Datacenters are very secure installations, and as you would expect Scolocate has a number of security features in place to ensure
that access to the datacentre, and the datafloors, is strictly controlled. Some of their security features include:
- The datacentre is manned 24 x 365 by security personnel who regularly patrol the facility's perimeter
- The entire site is monitored by a state-of-the-art CCTV system which enables monitoring, viewing and recording of activity across the entire facility.
- Access to the facility is granted to authorised client personnel only. This is only available by prior arrangement and even we can't just "turn up" and expect to be allowed entry
- Access is controlled by extremely strict access policies. Proximity cards are used to monitor and limit personnel movement within the facility so you can only access corridors, rooms and other facilties that you have been given permission to enter.
- All doors on the perimeter are fitted with access control systems and intruder alarm systems. These systems audit authorised access and detect & prevent unauthorised access.
Caged Floor Space
Although the datacentre, and the datafloors (where our servers are located) are extremely secure facilities, with physical security built-in at
the design stage rather than added on later, we feel that you can never be too careful. To make our systems even more secure from
physical access we've installed all our servers inside our own secure metal cage.
Our locked-down servers are installed into secure steel racks with locking doors, then these racks are installed inside a metal cage
that only we have access to. This gives our servers with a very high level of physical security and means we don't have to worry
about anyone being able to just walk-up to our servers and do what they like.
Air Conditioning
Datafloors are hot places with thousands of servers pumping out vast quantities of heat inside an enclosed space. Since heat is one of your
servers biggest enemies - making them unreliable and reducing their lifespan - it's critical that servers are kept as cool as possible.
Scolocate has a fully redundant air conditioning system that delivers a constant supply of fresh chilled air to each individual rack meaning
that our servers are always kept nice and cool.
Fire & Flood Security
With a Raychem fluid detection system, your server is protected from potential flooding before fluids can get near your server.
VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) systems and a Wormald fine mist suppression system protect your server from fire, along with the
facility architecture and design that is designed to be fireproof to a high degree.
